Newcomers of NW Hillsborough has also supported Academy Prep in Ybor City, Tampa, FL.  In addition to a cash donation to assist in the operating expenses of the charity, Newcomers donated gift cards during the Holiday Season for Academy Prep students. Academy Prep provides a unique and rigorous school program for underprivileged students to help them achieve academic excellence.
In past years, Newcomers of NW Hillsborough has also supported Mary Lee's House located on North Armenia Blvd in Tampa. This charity provides a safe and nurturing environment that ensures abused children are not traumatized again by the systems designed to protect them. Professionals from all areas of child advocacy work together to achieve the best care for the children. Newcomers helped to replenish their clothes closet for the children.

Newcomers of NW Hillsborough has also supported Feeding America Tampa Bay with a check in support of the charity's operations. Feeding America Tampa Bay operates as a food bank that receives, stores and distributes donated food to many charities that give/serve food to the needy and focuses on providing food to the more than 700,000 hungry in the 10 county area of West Central Florida.
Our charity for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 was Out of Zion - an organization that provides creative arts programs and events for children with special needs. Newcomers  presented Out of Zion with $ 950 in donated gift cards from our members at our Christmas luncheon and a check at the luncheon in May 2019.   Out of Zion, was thrilled to be able to use these proceeds for the benefit of special needs children in the Tampa area.
Newcomers' charity outreach for 2020-21 is the Bakas Equestrian Center, an innovative organization that provides therapeutic horseback riding activities for children and adults with disabilities.  Activities include recreational riding, lessons, camps,  Special Olympics, riding events and challenge shows. Bakas also provide networking, support and social group settings with the goal of improving the quality of life for all their "riders".  Members are encouraged to contact our Community Service Chair - Melissa Petre   heartspaceliving108@gmail.com - to learn about volunteer opportunities or to donate to this and other Bakas activities.
